Mariam Elene Gomelauri

Mariam Elene Gomelauri is a Tbilisi-based filmmaker who studied audio-visual arts at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). 

Self-image, class-struggles, environmental crisis, gender, and identity, are some of the themes Elene’s filmography often centers around. 


In 2023, for the Georgian pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, Elene worked on MARADIS, a short documentary following a grassroots protest against the Namokhvani dam project. Her debut short film Für Lilith/ლილიტს (2021) received the Best Connecting Cultures Film award at the Ghent International Short Film Festival.


She has experience working as a Producer’s assistant at Parachute Films. In 2024 Elene co-founded a visual art space Alikvali. Elene enjoys moving between documentary and essayistic forms in her films, as well as experimenting with different mediums like printmaking, analogue and generative technology.
