Giga Baindurashvili

Director

Giga Baindurashvili was born in Tbilisi on October 8, 1988, into the family of sculptor and painter Giorgi Baindurashvili. From an early age, he was passionate about drawing and later about photography. After finishing school, he was admitted to the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University. During his student years, he worked on numerous Georgian films in various roles (assistant to the art director, camera assistant, assistant director).

After graduating in 2015, he and his classmates founded the production company FILM ASYLUM, which produces numerous feature films, documentaries, and series in Georgia. To this day, Giga works as a director and screenwriter and has contributed to many fiction and documentary projects.

He is also a multiple winner of the Georgian National Film Center’s short film competitions, with works such as Barefoot (2012), Gabana (2015), and Halki (2017). His films have been nominated at various festivals.

Giga’s films are a kind of exploration. His works tell stories of lonely, marginalized people - those who remain alien and unnoticed by society. Human isolation is one of his key themes. He portrays the inner world of such characters in a simple, straightforward language and gives meaning to seemingly insignificant details.

Giga is also passionate about music, which he composes for his future films.

He is currently completing a feature-length documentary about the history of Georgian alternative music.
