Mariam Samushia

Communications Manager

Mariam Samushia is a film director from Georgia.

She completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences in Tbilisi and received her master’s degree in Berlin, specializing in film production. 

She has directed several short documentary films about ethnic and religious minorities living in Georgia and has collaborated with Chai Khana, the Tolerance Institute, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Her films include “Strings” (Chai Khana), “Stories from Javakheti,” “Spiritual Kinship” (Images of Diversity), among others. Her fiction film “So It Seems” is currently in post-production.


At DOCA, Mariam works as a Communications Manager, where she plans and implements informational activities aimed at promoting documentary cinema. She manages the organization’s website and social media platforms and is responsible for audience outreach through various communication channels.


Mariam also works at a school, where she teaches teenagers how to explore socially relevant issues through documentary filmmaking and guides them through the process of creating their own films.
