Lana Gogoberidze

Lana Gogoberidze (born October 13, 1928, Tbilisi) is an outstanding Georgian film director, diplomat, artist, translator and essayist. Her film Day Is Longer Than Night was entered into the 1984 Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, she was a member of the jury at the 34th Berlin International Film Festival. Her films have received numerous international awards and have also been presented at Venice, Tokyo, San Remo and other festivals.
Her filmography also includes I See the Sun (1964), When Almonds Blossom (1972), Some Interviews on Personal Matters (1978), and Valse on Petschora (1992) produced by Georgian Film. Most of her films are co-written with Georgian writer Zaira Arsenishvili.
Lana Gogoberidze graduated from Tbilisi State University in 1953 and from Moscow State University of Cinematography in 1958. She headed Director's Studio at the Rustaveli Theatre School, Tbilisi, in 1975. She was elected to the Parliament of Georgia from 1992 to 1999. Between 1999-2005 she served as Georgia's Ambassador to the Council of Europe. Between 2006-2009 she represented Georgia in UNESCO.
Her translations include poetry by Walt Whitman, Rabindranath Tagore, Paul Verlaine, Anna Akhmatova, Boris Pasternak and Paul Éluard. Her autobiographical book What I remember and the Way I Remember It was first published in 2003.
Lana Gogoberidze is an honorary member of DOCA Documentary Association Georgia.
