Bakar Cherkezishvili


Bakar Cherkezishvili is a filmmaker from Tbilisi, Georgia. He holds a bachelor's degree in Cinema and MA in Visual Arts from Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film State University. In 2020 Graduated with the DocNomads Joint Master Degree in Documentary Film Directing (2018-2020). DocNomads studies have brought him to live and study filmmaking in three countries, Portugal, Hungary, and Belgium.


During his studies, Bakar had several successful local and international projects and, in 2017, was awarded the “Tsinandali Award” for the most prominent young Georgian filmmaker of the year. His films were awarded and nominated at various film festivals, such as IDFA, Sarajevo IFF, Docaviv, and others. Bakar is an alumnus of IDFA Acadamey, Sarajevo Talents, Esodoc, and other workshops.


His paramount value in documentary cinema is a poetic understanding of challenging social issues. His artistic approach combines observational cinema with fictional elements, often in a poetic manner. His main fascination is the individuals on the edge of rationality, who are often misplaced, marginalized, and lost in societies and cultures.
